Job Description

Join our Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk Management (EORM) team, where you will help the business effectively manage risks across key areas. EORM oversees operational risk management related to various crucial operations and public safety, including risks associated with wildfires, nuclear facilities, dams, natural gas, cyberattacks, and natural disasters. Position Summary In this role, you will support the enterprise risk analytics function by providing quantitative risk analysis and modeling. Your work will inform important decisions and support various regulatory filings such as Risk Assessment and Mitigation Phase (RAMP), General Rate Case (GRC), and the Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). Key Responsibilities Continuously improve the quantitative assessment of risks and mitigations. Evolve analytical tools (data processing, algorithms, Python code, Excel files, Foundry, etc.) to enable consistent and useful risk evaluations. Design, develop, and execute scripts, programs, models, algorithms, and processes using structured and unstructured data from diverse sources. Generate actionable insights for strategy and policy development, process improvement, and product enhancement. Handle technical development phases including data engineering, analytics/modeling, and visualization/user interface. Collaborate with technical and non-technical clients to resolve analysis and technical issues. Work with teams, clients, and senior leadership throughout the development cycle to practice continuous improvement. Location and Work Arrangement This hybrid position allows you to work from your remote office and the general office once per week based on business needs. Salary and Benefits A reasonable salary range for this position is $132,000 - $226,000, depending on factors such as skills, education, experience, and geographic location. The position is also eligible for discretionary incentive compensation programs. Responsibilities Collaborate with other data science professionals. Develop domain knowledge in the electric and gas utility sector and related datasets. Gather, clean, transform, and reduce data from various sources. Work with business partners to enhance business processes based on analytical findings. Apply machine learning and other analytical methods to develop robust models and visualizations. Document data sources, methodologies, and model evaluation metrics. Serve as the technical lead for complex model development. Assess business implications of modeling assumptions, inputs, methodologies, and data analysis procedures. Work with sponsor departments and subject matter experts to understand and apply data analytic solutions. Present findings and make recommendations to senior management. Qualifications Minimum: Master’s Degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Econometrics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Statistics, or a related field. 6 years of job-related experience. Desired: Master’s or PhD degree in relevant fields. Industry experience in electric or gas utility, analytical consulting, etc. Experience in quantitative risk analysis or Probabilistic Risk Assessment. Strong foundation in probability, statistics, and risk analysis. Competent programming skills, particularly in Python, and familiarity with Git. Experience with Monte Carlo simulation methods and Bayesian statistics. Ability to work independently and proactively. Experience with Model Lifecycle Management. Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong data visualization skills. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to share knowledge and progress effectively. Ability to handle risk and uncertainty comfortably. Strong communication skills with peers, leadership, and stakeholders. Highly motivated and self-driven. Ability to collaborate with diverse teams. Effective task management and adherence to deadlines. Knowledge of business environment, key issues, and trends. Competency with project management tools and techniques. Proficiency in data science and/or operations research programming languages and tools. Ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights. Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
